I grew up
on the Mississippi with Hydro. $10-15 electric bills in the 70's and 80's ...
However people in the 60's through 70's still fired with fuel oil and coal.
We had a pile of coal in our yard just in case...maybe 1/2 ton
Southern Illinois family fired with coal as winters were generally mild...
