A Tennessee Titans player wore 9/11-themed cleats yesterday to honor the victims of the 2001 terror attacks, despite the threat of a fine from the NFL.
Linebacker Avery Williamson donned the patriotic cleats after several teammates and police groups in New York and New Jersey offered to pay any fine that is levied by the league.
“I just felt like I got so much support across the country, and especially when the New York and New Jersey police unions said that they would pay my fine, that really meant a lot ... so I felt like if I didn’t wear them, I just wouldn’t have felt good about it," he told The Tennessean after Sunday's game.
