And then there were at LEAST 3 OTHER GOP hypocrites leading the impeachment efforts against Clinton.
I think Clinton was 'acquitted' partly because of the collective 'WTF?!" expressed by the country over the hypocritical behavior by prominent GOP 'leadership'.
Remember the 'foot tapper'?
Quote:
In 1999 Craig became sharply critical of U.S. President Bill Clinton for the Monica Lewinsky scandal. Speaking on NBC's Meet The Press, Craig told Tim Russert: "The American people already know that Bill Clinton is a bad boy – a naughty boy. I'm going to speak out for the citizens of my state, who in the majority think that Bill Clinton is probably even a nasty, bad, naughty boy."
How about Bob Livingston?
Quote:
During debate over the impeachment of Bill Clinton on December 19, 1998, Hustler Magazine publisher Larry Flynt offered one million dollars for each unflattering sexual story about Republican members of congress.
After one such story was made public about him by Flynt, Livingston acknowledged that he had had an affair and withdrew his candidacy for Speaker. He challenged President Bill Clinton to resign as well.[6] Livingston then announced he would vacate his House seat in May 1999.[7]
His leaving office came despite support from Minority Leader Dick Gephardt of Missouri that the Democrats could work with Livingston and not make a continued issue of Livingston's affair. Livingston said that had he become Speaker, it would have been more difficult for the Republicans to carry out Clinton's impeachment and trial.[8] Thus, he removed himself from contention.
Livingston was succeeded by David Vitter – who later became the first popularly elected Republican U.S. senator from Louisiana and subsequently admitted to having been involved in a prostitution ring run by Deborah Jeane Palfrey.
The First District is currently represented by Republican Steve Scalise of Metairie, Louisiana, who faced controversy in 2014 for delivering a speech to white supremacist David Duke's European-American Unity and Rights Organization (EURO).
And there was Henry Hyde:
Quote:
In 1998, the Internet magazine Salon.com published "This Hypocrite Broke Up My Family" which stated that from 1965 to 1969, Hyde conducted an extramarital sexual affair with Cherie Snodgrass. At the time, Snodgrass was married to another man with whom she had three children. The Snodgrasses divorced in 1967. Hyde said the affair ended when Snodgrass' husband confronted Mrs. Hyde.
The Hydes reconciled and remained married until Mrs. Hyde's death in 1992. Hyde was married and 41 years old when the affair occurred. He admitted to the affair in 1998 and attributed the relationship to "youthful indiscretions".[12] The revelation of his affair was exposed while Hyde was spearheading the impeachment hearings of President Bill Clinton over charges of perjury in the Monica Lewinsky affair.
