Hungarian PM gives Trump ringing endorsement,
says foreign policy best for EU

Hungary's conservative prime minister on Tuesday reiterated his support for the Republican Party's presidential nominee, Donald Trump, saying his foreign policy proposals make him the better option for Europe and Hungary .

Viktor Orban, who is currently serving his second non-consecutive term as prime minister after returning to power in 2010, became on Saturday the first European Union (EU) leader to openly endorse Trump, saying his ideas were applicable in Europe.

"The Democratic Party's foreign policy is bad for the EU and deadly for Hungary," Orban said at a press conference in Budapest.

Orban said Democrats supported immigration and nation-building across the world, while Budapest (and Trump) opposed both, "which makes it clear where Hungary's interests lay."

While in Romania on Saturday, he had said that Trump was right on three points: that immigration was dangerous and bad, that secret services needed to be expanded and that Western countries needed to stop "trying to export democracy."

"I am not a member of Donald Trump's campaign staff," Orban said. "The thought never occurred to me that between the two he would be the best for Europe and Hungary," he said at Romania's Tusvanyos Free University summer camp at Baile Tusnad.

Nevertheless, he had listened to Trump's recommendations on how to stop terrorism.

"I myself could not have drawn up better what Europe needs," Orban added.
