Roku Is Getting Closer to a New Ultra HD Premium 4K TV.
More 4k news, no Ultraflix mention though.

TClRoku has had 4K TVs now for a few months, but it looks like they are getting closer to a Roku 4K Ultra HD TV a even high quality image than 4K.

Back at CES 2016 it was announced during the TCL press conference that they had started work on a Roku Ultra HD Premium 4K TV. Now, from what we can gather from a recent FCC filing, TCL is getting close to releasing a new Roku TV—likely with Ultra HD. Thanks to Dave Zatz from ZatznotFunny.com for being the first to share this FCC filing with us.

Netflix TCL Remote

Note: We understand that there is a radio button on this remote and radio is now long gone. Yet when they announced that TCL was working on an Ultra HD Premium TV radio was still around. It is likely that the FCC does not care about the quick buttons—just the hardware—which explains why the radio button is still there.

HDR and Ultra HD Premium are nearly the same thing, although it seems most people are going with the new Ultra HD Premium name. Whereas 4K TVs and 4K UHD TVs both show a 3840 × 2160 pixel picture, the 4K Ultra HD Premium TVs also have High Dynamic Range (HDR) colors added to that resolution, giving you more colors on the screen while also making the colors brighter and sharper.

This likely means Roku will be the first of the big four streamers to market a streaming player or TV that can stream Ultra HD Premium 4K videos. The Fire TV and Android TV both support 4K but do not offer Ultra HD Premium. The Apple TV can only offer 1080p with no 4K option at this time.

So although we know little right now it is likely a new Roku TV from TCL is only a month or so away.
