EMA golden cross.. how accurate? In the last p
Post# of 1023
In the last post I explained how the EMA golden cross can provide a better image of upward momentum (possible profits).
Maybe you're asking yourself, "Ok so... how accurate are they? Let's go to the numbers:
2011: August EMA golden cross > Price change: .08 to .12
2012: January EMA golden cross > Price change:.07 to .12
2012: June EMA golden cross > Price change:.08 to .23
2012: September EMA golden cross > Price change: .12 to .15
2013: September EMA golden cross > Price change: None
2014: March EMA golden cross > Price change: .02 to .10
2015: February EMA golden cross > Price change: .02 to .03
2016: March EMA golden cross > Price change:.002 to .0092
Obviously I didn't record every single golden cross. There were a number of golden crosses which were false positives with no major price increase. There were also other golden crosses which did increase in price but the change was negligible. In the world of stocks, there are no guarantees.
What I find interesting is how accurate the EMA golden cross can be despite the false positives.
In 5 years there were approximately 7 major EMA golden crosses and 6 of them would have made investors a hefty profit (if they were paying attention). So as we can see, EMA golden crosses are a rare event; around 8 major events in 5 years. For myself, this means it is now 'pay attention time'. Sure, if we do get a EMA golden cross tomorrow nothing may come of it. Typically it takes a month or longer following the cross before any major run occurs. Look at the most recent cross. It crossed in March and ran up to .0092 almost a month later.
In all, I believe EMA golden crosses are a very powerful tool. I find the timing of this possible golden cross along with the imminent release of the 10Q next week to be very timely.
And the crazy thing is, investors would have missed the opportunity to make profits for the majority of the above EMA golden crosses if they only focused on the standard 50MA and 200MA lines. This is why the SMA lines of 13 and 48.5 are so powerful. They show things other MA lines ignore.
