ARENA OPENING CELEBRATIONS: The new T-Mobile Arena revealed this morning that it has added not one but two amazing artists to opening-week celebrations: Nicki Minaj and Ariana Grande will bang, bang and super bass their way into the April 7 feast the day after hometown heroes The Killers, Wayne Newton and Shamir officially open it.
Tickets for Nicki and Ariana go on sale to T-Mobile customers Friday and the general public Monday. The Park that leads to the arena opens April 4, with the first lighting of the 40-foot-tall “Bliss Dance” sculpture at 8 p.m. New restaurants there, including another Shake Shack, open April 6, and UFC 200 takes place in July.
Other stars already lined up: Garth Brooks, Guns N’ Roses, Billy Joel, George Strait, Janet Jackson, The Dixie Chicks and The Harlem Globetrotters. The Pac-12 men’s basketball tournament has signed on for three years. Can a new NHL team be far behind? HockeyBuzz.com has reported that after the league’s team owners annual meeting, they agreed that Las Vegas could get the next expansion team.
But even without hockey, there will be plenty of sports in the arena, including Ultimate Fighting Championship shows, boxing matches, and professional bull riding competitions. Music acts, including The Killers, George Strait, Garth Brooks, Dixie Chicks and Janet Jackson, have already been scheduled.
