There's a big short position in the stock. The person or fund with the position more than likely a market maker has hired them at all cost to help them cover their position. They will say anything, even to the extent that you cant short while at the same time they're sweating over their current short open position. They are getting ready to be majorly cooked and they are trying desperately to recover all losses they can before their effort has no effect and they're forced to cover at the offer.
