KegWorks Becomes First US Distributor of Gourmet Lazzaroni Amaretto Cherries

BUFFALO, N.Y., Nov. 25, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Today, Buffalo-based KegWorks announced that they are now the first and only US distributor of Lazzaroni Amaretto Cherries . Lazzaroni, makers of the "Authentic Italian Amaretto since 1851," announced the addition of the cherries to their portfolio in September, and since then, KegWorks has been working with them to become a distributor in the States. "We're really excited about this opportunity because it's different from from the other cherries we distribute," says David Rivers, KegWorks Founder and President, and the man who worked with Lazzaroni owner, Luca Lazzaroni on the deal. "We take an enormous amount of pride in our cocktail ingredient and garnish offering, and we saw huge potential in this product." Amaretto Liqueur was first a cookie. According to legend, in 1718, the Cardinal of Milan unexpectedly visited Saronno, Italy. To honor the visit, Giuseppe Lazzaroni and his wife, Osolina quickly baked up a mixture of sugar, apricot kernels, and egg whites, creating a new cookie which they named the "Amaretti di Saronno." The cookie was a huge success, and shortly after, commercial production was started by the Lazzaroni family. After that came the world-famous Amaretto Lazzaroni 1851 Liqueur, which is still made by the same family in Saronno, Italy to this day. Now, the Lazzaroni family brings us these gourmet amarena cherries from the Apulia Region of Italy, which were unavailable in the United States until today. Packed in 400g (14 oz) jars, each whole, black, pitted cherry has a balanced sweet-tart flavor that enhances any cocktail, especially Manhattans. Speaking on the US launch of the cherries, Tom Alberico, VP of Sales & Marketing, said, "Bartenders and consumers now insist on gourmet cherries to finish a quality cocktail. I love them," he continued. "I could eat a whole jar myself." For those who aren't drinkers, the cherries are also said to be quite tasty as a dessert ingredient or on top of ice cream.
