LG Display Will Share Future Tech With Their Partners
LG Display has also created the ‘Technology Innovation Award’, and awarded Asahi Glass, Merck and Nitto Denko Corp. for playing their part in improving the performance of LG Display’s products and helping the company move forward.
It is also worth mentioning that Sharp is in this game as well, this Japan-based company is manufacturing their JDI displays which are quite formidable as well, which makes things even more interesting.

Nitto Denko to set up front-section polarizer plant in Central Taiwan
Taipei, July 21, 2004 (CENS)--Nitto Denko Corp. of Japan, the world's largest maker of polarizers, plans to set up a new front-section polarizer production plant in Central Taiwan Science Park (CTSP) in a bid to meet the increasing demand from local thin film transistor-liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) panel makers.
Nitto Denko was the first investor in the CTSP and it originally planned to set up only the cutting facility to meet the increasing demands from the expanded panel capacities of AUO and Chi Mei Optoelectronics Corp. (CMO)'s new panel plants. Industry sources said that the Japanese polarizer maker's new project is expected to help the local TFT-LCD panel industry develop stronger competitiveness.
Industry sources said that the top-five makers of large-sized TFT-LCD panels in Taiwan are expected to invest over NT$1 trillion (US$29.5 billion) in the coming few years for their new-generation (5.5-, sixth-, seventh- and 7.5th-generation) panel business deployment, including AUO's projects to pour a total of NT$400 billion (US$11.8 billion) and Chunghwa Picture Tubes, Ltd.'s NT$420 billion (US$12.39 billion) for mainly LCD TV panel production.
Nitto Denko currently accounts for 60% of the global polarizer supply, and the firm's polarizer business division is expected to have revenue of 198 billion yen in this fiscal year, up 42% from last year. The Japanese company currently also runs two integrated plants in Japan to produce such products from front to rear sections.

INFORMATION DISPLAY
Although some of that success was due to post-war assistance from the U.S., the major factor has been the country’s unique economic policy, which ensured close cooperation among government bodies, manufacturers, banks, unions, etc.
JDI itself is the result of a 2012 merger of Sony, Toshiba, and Hitachi’s LCD divisions (financed by the Innovation Network Corporation of Japan
When asked about the role of the Japanese display industry on a global level, JDI’s Kubota responded: “The role of Japan’s display industry is to lead in innovating technologies for display panels, related materials, parts, and production facilities.”
As for rumors of its demise as an economic superpower, they are premature. Japan continues to do quite well. Japan’s display industry itself has several factors in its favor. One is the country’s overall history of consumer-electronics excellence. Another is the willingness of different industry entities to join together in a common cause and the willingness of government to support those efforts. The formation of JDI, for example, was not a reactive cost-cutting measure, but a proactive measure designed to meet the competition.

....interesting map
.....Kyocera Display seems most distant w/business relationships, but think they'd also pull together for National pride & World leadership
.....I don't know how tight keiretsu relationships are, but the potential for QMC to be a 1st or 2nd supplier seem good to me, (or maybe indirect).
