Weyerhaeuser ($WY) announced an agreement to acquire rival Plum Creek Timber Co. for $8.44 billion. The company also said its board has authorized the exploration of strategic alternatives for its cellulose fibers business, including retaining the business or a sale or spin-off of the business.
