Medicare and Medicaid at 50

What: Join the National Academy of Social Insurance as we mark the 50th Anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid with a full-day of policy symposia and rich panel discussions, culminating with the Robert M. Ball Award Banquet honoring Karen Davis.

Sessions include:
- 10:00 am: Rising Medicare Beneficiary Costs and Declining Retirement Income: The interaction between Medicare costs, reductions in Social Security benefits, the continuing decline of pensions and inadequate private savings, and the federal budget.
- 12:30 pm: Welfare Medicine to Health Reform: Medicaid History and Innovation: A panel of Medicaid experts will discuss the program's history with a focus on past, present, and future innovations. Held in conjunction with the release of an updated edition of Medicaid Politics and Policy.
- 3:00 pm: Medicare and Medicaid at 50: America's Entitlement Programs in the Age of Affordable Care: A panel of experts will examine Medicare and Medicaid from their origins as programs for the elderly and poor to their later role as a safety net for the middle class. Held in conjunction with the release of a book with the same name, edited by Alan B. Cohen, David C. Colby, Keith A. Wailoo, and Julian E. Zelizer.
- 6:00 pm: The 2015 Robert M. Ball Award Banquet Honoring Karen Davis for outstanding achievements in social insurance, extraordinary dedication to improving the quality and sustainability of Medicare and our nation's health care delivery system, and for her focus on the uninsured and people with complex health needs.
