i> clicker Announces THE New Mobile-Optimized Engagement System - REEF Polling

NEW YORK, N.Y., April 16, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- via PRWEB - REEF Polling, a new product developed by the i>clicker team, supersedes the previous mobile solution, i>clicker GO, and enhances the already user-friendly experience professors and students have come to expect from i>clicker.

REEF Polling is free for professors, can be set up in under two minutes, does not require the import of content into a system, and allows dynamic polling sessions with any presentation application (slides, video, websites, etc.). Once enabled, professors ask multiple choice, numeric and short answer questions. Grading, Excel reporting and the upload or synchronization of data into Learning Management Systems is available. All class data is stored in the cloud and can be accessed anywhere, anytime.

Students use REEF Polling through any smart device with a Web browser, have the option to download a free iOS app from the iTunes app store (Android app coming soon), and have affordable subscriptions to choose from starting at only $9.99.

Not only can students participate in live polling sessions, they can access the session history outside of class that includes presentation images, questions and answer history for use as a study guide.

With the rapid increase in both wireless technology and mobile devices in the hands of students, the capabilities of student response systems, or clickers, have expanded. A recent ECAR (Educause Center for Analysis and Research) Study of Faculty and Information Technology survey highlighted that faculty are clearly dedicated to using technology in innovative ways that will support student learning. The survey also pointed out that some faculty still do ban or discourage smartphones and tablets, are concerned about in-class use of mobile technology being distracting, and 88% of higher education classrooms have Wi-Fi.

"Built on i>clicker's understanding that the market is evolving, REEF Polling is optimized and designed for mobile, but it works with our traditional clickers as well," said Steven Harper-Ray, Director of Product at i>clicker. The company's hybrid strategy--allowing both mobile devices and clickers to be used at once--reflects the fact that traditional classroom polling devices aren't going away anytime soon and i>clicker can help bridge the transition of technology adopted and supported at any institution.

REEF Polling is currently being used by early adopters at over 25 institutions, including the University of Kentucky, the University of Miami, Cornell University and UCLA. The new product usage adds to the already strong adoption rates for i>clicker where its reliable student response technology is used by more than three million students across 1,100 institutions.

"REEF Polling is the first module developed on our new REEF Education mobile engagement platform and takes our philosophy around giving tools to professors, administrators and students that are easy to implement, easy to use and affordable to a new cloud based learning experience," said Kevin Pawsey, President of i>clicker. "Instructors now have the opportunity to continue to use traditional clickers only, a combination of clickers and mobile devices in the same classroom or go all digital. This flexibility demonstrates our deep understanding of the different needs on campus and we have developed REEF Polling with invaluable advice and guidance from our current customer base. "

Pawsey continued, "As a business, we are very excited by the opportunity mobile devices in the classrooms provides. REEF Polling is the first of many new relevant and innovative modules that we will be making available to our customer base to help improve student success and student outcomes. However, we continue to listen to our professors needs that want to continue with our more traditional clickers and I believe we are in a unique position that allows both technologies to coexist successfully, enabling centers for teaching and learning to make strategic decisions that avoids students having to pay for both physical and digital solutions and provides a common learning experience for any classes they might be taking."
