Many times the best approach to a child throwing a tantrum to get attention is to ignore the child.
Sometimes even negative attention reinforces the child's behavior and the child continues it.
If no one were to acknowledge the behavior by never responding even the dullest child would eventually stop seeking attention and spend time staring blankly into a mirror wondering who it is hiding in the mirror.
