I'm not in biotech but having been in software development for 20 years I think I know what it's like to make something creative and complex. Milestones are missed, goal posts get moved. And, in my experience, the sales and marketing folks frequently have no clue what the development team has to go through to get a product out the door, the late nights and weekends spent in the office, sometimes for months at a time. That may be an unfair generalization about sales folks but I do think it applies to at least one person on this mb.
