i've been thinking that could be the fhfa's primary motive for a while. it may also be what leads some in washington to claim they don't want any profits going to existing shareholders.
*Flips a penny to Mierto* there, now give your shares to me.

FNMA Stock Message Board http://investorshangout.com/Fannie-Mae-FNMA-61730/
A huge part of that $230Bill was DTA's, but don't get me wrong.....FNMA is poised to blast off...maybe another month
No, my point is that this is not the same BAC settlement. Why would the share price rise now for a settlement that actually occurred... 7+ months ago... with full payment. done.
The BAC suit that happened recently had nothing to do with us at all. The previous one did.
I.e. you and multiple others on this board have been citing the current Department of Justice BAC settlement that has no affect on us at all, because it does not involve us.
Goldman sachs - if it is 1billion+ in a settlement, may influence the price some, however the likely reason it will not is due to the amount of investors that are either holding, or have already been scared off.
Honestly, we may be just waiting for all of these lawsuits to finish (from the FHFA) and then siphon to the government before we are released... I could see that as a motive for the FHFA. (to toss it out there)
How many FHFA suits are there left, does anyone know? I haven't bothered to keep track of them but it seems there should only be a handful left.

holdouts are Nomura, HSBC and Royal Bank of Scotland.
The bank(GS) is one of only four institutions still being pursued by the FHFA, which sued 18 institutions in 2011, accusing them of misrepresenting the quality of securities sold to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The other holdouts are Nomura, HSBC and Royal Bank of Scotland.

I need a job at the FHFA. They brought in close to 230ish billion over the past few years. I'll even give up my shares to get a piece of that.
Good. They weren't able to drop fnma but was able to drop fmcc by 2 pennies.
Exactly what I am saying. The Goldman Sachs settlement is already priced in since we knew it would settle eventually. I don't see the PPS going higher because of this.
Oh, and another point... when BAC originally did settle last year/ early this year, for some 11 billion, we DID rise in share price.

The difference you probably should consider is that this one (goldman sachs) is a lawsuit purported by the FHFA, rather than the DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE - which again, HAS NOTHING to do with Fannie Mae / Freddie Mac in regards to the lawsuit. (No awards, just penalties by the DOJ effectively)
I.e. this one coming up for a billion dollars, (at a glance appears to indeed involve a faulty mortgage settlement and an award likely for F&F)
Of course a lawsuit that is not directly related to the GSEs or with an award to either will not boost share price. That's like saying "I should get a dollar because you gave james over there a dollar."
Why would our share price rise?
Regardless, most of the relevant suits will not boost much for Fannie mae until after conservatorship ends simply due to the money siphon currently in place - and the lawsuits coming to an end in the near future - as well as the smaller amounts visited.

BOTH
you got it.
Dont do it barefoot or in flip-flops. I've heard too many horror stories involving power/pressure washers and bare skin. Dont want to hear another!
Do you believe they are smelling sh**t under their legs?
Why does this matter? BAC settlement did nothing. This one won't either.
@miko- what has the state dept banned?
so many posts, i put many on ignore- what did i miss?

GS-- could be concluded as early as next week,
Negotiations between Goldman and the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) could be concluded as early as next week, the business daily reported, citing people familiar with the matter. (http://on.ft.com/1q2eaOS)

The State Department has banned participation by U.S. ambassadors and other high-profile foreign service officers. Department lawyers say participation would violate federal ethics rules barring officials from using public office for private gain "no matter how worthy the cause," according to an unclassified cable sent earlier this week that was obtained Thursday by The Associated Press.
I find this so amusing.... lobbyist are everywhere in washing and I bet they have been playing FnF all along as well!
