Note that Gerald needs to front multiple groups of stakeholders. Sometimes he may leverage on, e.g. public (e.g. releasing good news) to add pressure on potential partners to close deals, sometimes he did the reverse (e.g. withholding good news) to the benefit of other stakeholders, but to the temporary "dismay" of public shareholders, but for overall benefit of the company. This is what any shrewd businessman will do. Public shareholders would not know what is happening at the back of the scene.
