$MJLB - Greenscape Labs Announces Advent of Recreational Marijuana in Washington State
PENSACOLA, FL--(Marketwired - Jul 8, 2014) - Greenscape Laboratories, Inc. (PINKSHEETS: MJLB)
Today marks another historic leap in the expansion of the marijuana and cannabis-related industries, as Washington State has taken steps to fully implement recreational cannabis laws, set forth in initiative 502. The first 24 cannabis shops that were granted authority are now open. Specifically, 14 recreational shops are allowed to sell recreational marijuana in Washington west of the Cascade mountains and 10 on the eastern side of the state. Although these 24 stores are now open, more than 300 applied-for retail licenses are waiting for the state to take positive action on their pending permits.
State law officials have also set forth criteria allowing legal transportation from production facilities to retail stores.
Members of the industry fear that a backlog of testing demand is forming. In an article found in Marijuana Business Daily, Fred Dreier wrote that Analytical 360 -- one of two labs licensed to test in Washington -- had only tested two samples as of June 30, 2014. Industry pundits predict a testing backlog will increase the severity of the cannabis shortage that many experts foresee for Washington State's industry. Under Washington law, all recreational marijuana must be tested. (See, WAC 314-55-102 at paragraph 13: "No lot of usable flower or batch of marijuana-infused product may be sold or transported until the completion of all required quality assurance testing."
Greenscape believes that the lack of licensed testing facilities coupled with allowing residents to purchase recreational marijuana will put it in the sweet spot as state-legal marijuana use spreads, leading to more testing demand in these other enlightened states.
