I believe the real story is that JBI failed to be able to convert any of the "numerous sources" of free plastic available to them into an oil of a higher value than the plastic. Madison County, for example, bent over backwards and spent money to try to be environmentally friendly and was going to send JBI the plastic for free...and Mr. Bordynuik told them the plastic wouldn't work.

If JBI really does get any significant quantities of scrap plastic of any value, they would be better off selling that at market prices to a recycling facility.
