Ren Zhengfei is the CEO of Huawei, China's largest manufacturer of telecom hardware with sales of $29.4 billion in 2010. It has 20 research and development centers around the world and has filed over 49,000 patent applications. Son of two school teachers, Ren spent much of his youth in a remote town in Guizhou Province before graduating from the Chongqing Institute of Civil Engineering and Architecture in 1963. He later served a decade in the People's Liberation Army's engineering corps after which he worked for Shenzhen South Sea Oil before setting up Huawei in 1987.
