Steph's initial encounter with Dharmanol has me wondering if Dharmanol could be the actualization of Alduous Huxley's prediction of Soma in Brave New World (1932). Even the name conjures up an image of healing and soothing well-being. The product could spawn a cult following with no second-hand smoke downside.
