CompTIA Canadian IT Services and Support Community Targets Four Groups for Financial Assistance

DOWNERS GROVE, Ill., Oct. 21, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Four Canadian organizations committed to promoting career opportunities, Internet safety for children and literacy are the 2013 recipients of financial donations from the Canadian IT Services and Support Community of CompTIA , the non-profit association for the IT industry.

Donations were awarded to Canada Company ($2,500), Frontier College ($2,500), the Kids' Internet Safety Alliance (Kinsa) ($2,500) and the MicroSkills Development Centre ($2,500).

"Each of these organizations is making its mark every day through the vital education and training programs they offer to many individuals," said Chris Adamson, chairman of the CompTIA IT Services and Support Community for Canada, and director of IT and Professional Services for Ricoh Canada Inc. "Thousands of people have benefited from positive, life-changing experiences made possible by these four organizations. We're pleased and privileged to support their efforts."

The Canada Company's Military Employment Transition Program builds and strengthens relationships between employers and the Canadian military. The program facilitates connections between employers and the Canadian Forces, allowing former members of Canada's military to bring the important skills they developed in the military and apply them in the civilian workplace.

Frontier College is a national literacy organization that works with volunteers and community partners to give people the skills and confidence they need to reach their potential. Frontier College's award-winning Beat the Street program offers a supportive environment for street-involved youth to practice critical thinking and develop the skills and strategies to become self-directed, life-long learners.

Kinsa is committed to creating a global safety net that protects every child everywhere from online exploitation. Kinsa works in partnership with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and is acknowledged and respected by law enforcement agencies worldwide.

MicroSkills Development Centre is a multi-cultural, community-based organization committed to assisting the unemployed, with priority to women, racial minorities, youth and immigrants, to build a better future. The organization has served communities in the greater Toronto area since 1984.

This marks the third consecutive year that CompTIA member communities have made cash contributions to charitable organizations, non-profit groups and programs that are changing lives for the better through education, empowerment and opportunity.

Funding for the donations is provided by the Creating IT Futures Foundation , the charitable arm of CompTIA. The foundation helps populations that are under-represented in the IT workforce and individuals who are lacking in opportunity to prepare for, secure and be successful in IT careers.

"Creating IT Futures is proud to fund organizations that are making a difference by helping people expand their individual worlds," said Charles Eaton, chief executive officer of the foundation.
