Pan American Energy Advances Exploration at Tharsis Project
Pan American Energy's Successful Field Program
CALGARY, Alberta — Pan American Energy Corp. (CSE: PNRG | OTC: PAANF | FRA: SS6) is excited to announce the successful completion of its preliminary field program at the Tharsis Project. Located in the Northwest Territories, this important initiative marks a significant stride towards developing an extensive geological model for the Squalus Lake alkaline complex. This complex is particularly promising for rare earth element (REE) and niobium mineralization.
Field Campaign Overview
The fieldwork, which took place over nine days in late September, involved a skilled team of six professionals who mapped and characterized geological outcrops around the northern end of Squalus Lake. Their focus included areas near known REE-Nb occurrences and the central magmatic core of the complex. The team diligently described lithologies, documented magnetic susceptibility readings, and gathered representative rock samples and photographs to enhance their findings.
Geological Insights from the Field
During their exploration, the team observed a distinct difference between magnetic and non-magnetic rock units. Notably, carbonatite and felsic phases exhibited low magnetic signatures, while mafic units showed significantly higher readings. Two key outcrops were thoroughly analyzed. Outcrop A, which is situated near the magnetic low core, contained coarse biotite, feldspar, and mafic minerals, yielding an average low magnetic susceptibility of 0.46 × 10?? SI. On the other hand, Outcrop B, located around the magnetic high ring, was composed of coarse magnetite syenite, mixed with hornblende and biotite, averaging a higher 55 × 10?? SI. This data supports the interpretation that the magnetic low might correspond to a carbonatite phase with high potential for rare earth elements, while surrounding areas may contain less promising mafic materials.
Bathymetric Survey and Data Collection
Furthermore, the field team conducted an in-depth bathymetric survey of Squalus Lake, amassing around 17,500 data points through 100-meter spaced east-west transects across all feasible locations of the lake. Due to low water levels and obstruction by boulders, the eastern bay at the lake’s midpoint was not included in this survey. The outcome of this bathymetric dataset will be crucial for constructing a detailed three-dimensional model of the lake's bottom. This model, combined with the geological mapping and magnetic data, will significantly aid in pinpointing and refining drill targets beneath the lake.
Cultural Awareness and Heritage Preservation
A vital archaeological survey was also performed, with the engagement of a local Indigenous community member to ensure the exploration process aligns with cultural preservation and territorial heritage standards. The team used both aerial reconnaissance and on-ground observations to assess the northern part of the property.
Next Steps in Exploration
All data gathered during the 2025 program—including geological, magnetic, and bathymetric information—will be combined into a 3D geospatial workspace that will facilitate future drill planning. The upcoming phase includes preparing a preliminary geological map, thin section analyses, QEMSCAN evaluations of representative samples, and developing an integrated model merging subsurface topography with surface geology. This comprehensive approach will guide the positioning of the inaugural drill holes at Tharsis, paving the way for exciting discoveries ahead.
Adrian Lamoureux, CEO of Pan American Energy, expressed great pride in the team's accomplishments, stating, "Our team has completed an exceptional amount of work in a short field window. The integration of detailed datasets will provide the technical foundation for our first drill campaign at Tharsis and continues to affirm that the Squalus Lake complex is a well-preserved carbonatite system with excellent potential for rare earth elements."
