A Meaningful Goodbye
The PACU Foundation, a hallmark of charitable efforts across central North Carolina, is closing the curtains with a swan song of generosity. It's not every day you hear about an organization wrapping up its operations with such intentionality, but here we are, looking at a tidy $250,000 raised and thoughtfully distributed to keep some crucial networks afloat.
Spreading the Wealth
As Piedmont Advantage Credit Union presses ahead with a merger with Truliant Federal Credit Union—a move packed with its own implications—the foundation, its charitable avatar, decided to make a notable exit. Seven charities each got $10,011, carrying forward the grand mission of making life a smidge better for their community. Let's tip our hats to the Education Over Debt Foundation, Help, Incorporated, and others that snagged a piece of this pie.
These organizations are in the trenches daily, battling to offset the burdens of debt, violence, poverty, and lack of education. The funds are a mere band-aid on a resilient system that requires endlessly more support, but it's a reminder that even small changemakers make waves.
Building a Legacy of Generosity
"This final chapter is bittersweet, but it's also incredibly meaningful," proclaimed Jean Golden-Rumer, President of the PACU Foundation.
Here’s something rare—a chapter closing without sour grapes. The foundation banked on the philosophy that community and compassion go hand-in-hand, and for five years, they played the game well. Through a collection of charity runs and community efforts, including a grand slam last Flying Colors 5K raising over $54,000, their impact doesn't go unappreciated.
The Bigger Picture
This isn't just about dollar signs changing hands. It’s about the impact—it's community resilience, plain and simple. Dion Williams, President & CEO of Piedmont Advantage, emphasized this very spirit, pointing to the philosophy of investing in community-strengthening organizations. That's the true equity here folks, not just in dollars but in values.

What’s Next?
As PACU Foundation exits stage left, the merging credit unions are in line to paint their own picture with a community-backed canvas. Regulatory green lights are flickering, PACU members are casting votes, and the plans roll forward. What remains in the wake of the Foundation's dissolution are deeply rooted values of community care. No doubt, they lit a beacon for how intertwined financial institutions can—and should—impact their surroundings.
Though the foundation's work concludes, the seeds it planted promise growth. Here’s hoping they sprout into something as impactful as intended, because in this game, it’s the spirit of giving that tallies up as real victory.
