Consumer sentiment rises in August
WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) — A gauge of consumer sentiment rose in early August on rosier views of current economic conditions, but remained relatively low, according to data released Friday by the University of Michigan-Thomson Reuters.

For a preliminary August reading, the UMich sentiment index increased to 73.6 — the highest level since May — from a final July reading of 72.3.
