Why brokers like margin is that they can charge you interest for any shares you have on margin and can charge interest to the borrowers of any shares lent out. They call shares on margin just to cover their ass. They don't want money they've lent out to not be covered by the underlying value of the assets. I've never had a margin account. Too much risk of being wiped out for my liking.
