To qualify as "American-made", solar panels must meet certain requirements to receive the full tax credit from the US government:

*Domestically made materials
The panels must include domestically made materials such as the solar cells, frame, back rail, glass, encapsulant, backsheet, junction box, edge seals, pottants, adhesives, bus ribbons, and bypass diodes.

*Domestically melted and poured iron and steel
All of the project's iron and steel products must be melted and poured domestically.

*Percentage of manufactured products
A minimum percentage of the costs of manufactured products and components must come from products and components mined, produced, or manufactured in the US. The percentage increases over time, starting at 40% for projects starting construction in 2024 and increasing to 55% for projects starting construction after 2026.

*The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) of August 2022 offers incentives for projects that comply with its stipulations. The IRA's domestic content bonus credit provides an additional 10% tax credit for solar energy installers that use American-made products.
