You can't go really far into the weeds when it comes to CCR5 and psychiatric diseases. There is an association between psychiatric diseases, CCR5 and the inflammatory cytokines but exact mechanisms of action are unknown. It could be secondary effects on serotonin levels or other factors but it hasn't been tracked down as far as I know. With bi-polar disorder there's also the question of why the switch between states. The large unknowns are why no psychiatric illnesses are on the disease list. Maybe at some time they'll do a deep study into the pathway between CCR5 and psychiatric illnesses. Until then all I can say is that CCR5 blockade probably will have a decent chance of having a positive effect.
