Betty was one of the nicest people I've ever had the privilege to know. My wife's older sister, everyone loved Betty. She died of Corona-19 late 2020. Two kids, three grandkids.
I see the cold numbers: over one million of our fellow Americans have been lost to this disease. That number doesn't mean too much until you connect each of those numbers to someone like Betty. Someone who was loved and loved their family and friends.
Betty died in an adult care facility. There was no effort to treat her Covid. Just made her as comfortable as possible and watched her die alone.
When Covid-19 was identified, if I recall correctly, the government went all-in promising to develop an effective vaccine to ward of the spread of the disease. Very little effort was brought to bear to find an effective treatment for those infected and dying. They tried treatments that had been effective for other ailments. Some were fairly effective, if used early, most were not.
The medical community appealed to government officials to find and approve an effective treatment for Covid-19 to "take death off the table." These appeals were ignored and as a result we have over one million Betty's, Bob's, Timmy and Tom's that were real people who didn't have a chance.
Why can't we move forward with a drug that has demonstrated a high degree of effectiveness against this plague? Are we to lose another few hundred thousand of our people before the government who has promised to protect us decides to do the right thing?
We need leronlimab...now.
