The answer to why he was fired could be as simple as the fact that he gets a much better severance package if he is "fired without cause" than if he resigns. His employment contract was attached to one of the SEC filings and it's right there in black and white.
So, if there is a partner in the wings or perhaps a big financier, and they want to install their own leadership, then he could be terminated without cause and do quite well.
It's unfortunate, because the word "termination" has negative connotations, and it's just more fodder for swing traders and shorts, when we really don't know one way or another.
This stock is very heavily shorted on a daily basis. It's been a hedge fund and day trader playground. I'm hopeful that once one significant, undeniable catalyst drops that these ridiculous prices will be a distant memory.
