“We previously predicted that SARS-CoV-2 would persist, continue to vary, and evade our natural and adaptive immune responses. We have also learned that SARS-CoV-2 has the potential to become far more lethal than it is today. We reiterate that the sister of this virus, SARS-CoV, and its cousin, MERS-CoV, ranged between 10% and 30% lethality. This is presumably due to slight variations in the structural, nonstructural, and accessory proteins. We must be ever alert now and for many years in the future of the possibility of such changes and their consequences. “
If omicron becomes more deadly after mutating again is it still the same variant? I keep hearing this variant is way less deadly than the other variants. I understand that we need to keep a close eye but I was under the impression the variants over time will more likely become less deadly to survive in its host.
It sound like he his saying that it can evade immunity which makes sense but on top of it become more deadly. Is this a real possibility it just seems very unlikely and the perfect storm?
Some people are already predicting next year Covid will be basically like the flu. Is 2022 going to be like 2021? Wave after wave of Covid again and high number of deaths?
