I think masks will be less effective with any more transmissible variant, but better than nothing. KN95/N95 are a better choice if available.
The South African data are unfortunately all that we have at this point. As with previous waves, I expect UK to be the best predictor of our experience. Cases jumped to nearly 90k from 50k last week.
Check back next week on hospitalizations and deaths. Fingers crossed that virulence remains low as seen so far.
