CRISPR and Sangamo’s ZFN both have a good chance of a cure in my opinion.
These methods of Gene DNA modification basically cut out HIV sequence from the DNA string and repair the broken strands of DNA to be like uninfected T-cells.
ZFN is more accurate than CRISPR but I believe it’s more costly.
I just can’t understand why Cytodyn are chasing an HIV cure when Leronlimab only attaches itself to the CCR receptor. The only thing I can think of is to provide a patient with Leronlimab and insert uninfected T-cells from a donor in such a quantity so they attack the infected cells. The cells would either have to be from a compatible donor or they are relying on GVHD properties of Leronlimab to stop rejection. But then the patient still has a reservoir of latent cells which can re-awake at anytime. The so called ‘Kick and Kill’ method (if it works at all) which is a combination of drugs which awakes latent HIV cells and the other drug kills the infected cells and free floating HIV wouldn’t require Leronlimab either.
Maybe I’m missing something here!
