The whole claim that the numbers are inaccurate goes both ways. For instance, as Covid surged in Florida its official numbers did not compute when compared with other states, strongly suggesting there was some funny business to fudge the numbers in the other direction (i.e. that LESS were dying from Covid).
Most likely, the 1 in 500 number is pretty damn accurate. And tragic.
