Josh, in my opinion, anything to make it harder for shorts to short or cover is good in my book. I would answer Schwab back with an emphatic "ABSOLUTELY NOT"!
Personal choice, but I wouldn't lift a finger to help a Verb short, especially to long's detriment.
The upside of that phone call is that it notifies you that shares to borrow to short against are scarce.
The other upside is that now you know they aren't already loaning your shares out.
