There are not going to be all that many patients at each clinical trial site. There are at least 17 clinical trial sites in Russia. We don't know how many in the U.S. This disease is variable enough from patient to patient that it would be hard to draw conclusions if you had, for instance, 10 patients enrolled in the clinical trial.
There are all kinds of factors that determine an individual's reaction to the virus. We know that people with certain blood types are more badly affected (watch out, Type A, congratulations, Type O). There is evidence that people with a certain Neanderthal gene are protected somewhat, and people with a different Neanderthal gene are more likely to get seriously ill.
I was actually quite surprised that they were allowing such a low number of patients to be in the clinical trial. There is so much we just don't know about how this disease works.
