The more I learn about this, the more I realize that the MM are kind of like book makers. They know who is buying at what price, who is selling at what price and make the two meet somewhere and take the spread for themselves.

It seems to me to be a very profitable business that they win every time...until one of their buddies gets caught in a short squeeze. Then they move very quickly to change the rules of the game.
