Somewhat. I dont see how the timing of the virus is rated here since it hit all of the EU around the same time. Also most countries in the EU saw between 40-50 percent of the total deaths in their countries in their senior population , regardless of how each country approached their elderly population . In the first wave, when you look at the average age of death in EU countries , it was people in their late 70s with multiple health issues.
not wanting to sound callous , and I am over 65 so I qualify here , but immune systems of the elderly dont function like 40 year olds and I doubt if much could have been done to keep this count down in any country. But I am curious in what your thoughts are on why the Belgium death rate per million dwarfed Sweden. No one has even talked about it but it’s off the charts yet they get little criticism..
Ultimately , it’s up to each nation to judge their own policies regarding how Covid was approached.
