Well, he already DID provide a specific answer of where they are in the process, whether he likes it or not:
“Also, we are poised to begin testing Ii-Key-SARS-CoV-2 peptides against blood samples...”
Poised to start means it has not started, in a fairly definitive way. If that is not where they are, it would seem he could have stated this differently, while making a public statement.
So, intentionally or not, he has implied we are at a standstill until funding breaks.
