"Capitalism" is an abstraction, a schema of a certain mode of production. In the historical world, this schema is mediated by a myriad of historical factors involved in what we generalize by largerly meaningless words like 'tradition' 'culture' , 'social organization', 'politics' and the likes. In other words, there is no such thing as Capitalism, only historical forms of capitalisms. The story of CYDY is a logical outcome of US capitalism which is a plutocratic, oligarchic form of anti-democratic capitalism in contrast to the Chinese authoritative form of state capitalism or the array of European capitalisms with their long tradition of labor organization and social-democracy, which this country has never known. This is why the fate of CYDY cannot be decided by any grass-roots action since no nation-wide grass-roots movement exists here. Nor it can be helped by "free press" because "free press" in this country is owned by a handful of transnational corporations whose financial and political interests have nothing to do with those of working-class Americans. CYDY's only hope is that it will be found useful to be promoted by one part of the US elite in their power struggle with another.
