The problem with curse words is that the interpretation is often different than what was intended by the author. I try not to cuss when I don't know my audience, but I also don't take offense when I don't know the author. (Admittedly I can do better at both)
Put another way, any particular word only has an offensive meaning because it was assigned one at some point in time. The words that are offensive today are much different than the words that were offensive a hundred years ago.
They're just words. I think a more effective argument would be that the use of curse words are an indicator of an undeveloped vocabulary.
