I agree with you, but the research labs will be testing numerous drugs based on their lab responses both as antiviral and anti-inflammatory agents.
The only way to see which is best in patients is to do controlled studies.
My guess is since this is an emergency I do not think it is likely you will see placebos given since the untreated results should be well documented, but you will see the different agents given alone and in combinations at different doses and at different stages of the disease simultaneously. As the results are evaluated the drugs doses and combinations will be tweeked to obtain the optimal responses.
My guess again is the billions poured into this research will mean the trials will begin quickly and since the time from the onset of symptoms to pulmonary involvement is short the trials will also roll out and be completed quickly I think the clinical trials will be international and my guess is they could begin in several weeks.
The Chinese have been performing drug trials but the results have not been formally released. Hopefully the Chinese researchers have been communicating with their international peers {but only to the point of elevating the appearance of the Chinese communist party}
I expect we will know exactly their protocols soon.
