Talk about a special thrill, I stayed in Little Rock at a hotel that was hosting all the remaining Marines that were at Chosin Reservoir. For those unfamiliar with Chosin history, it is considered by many to be the greatest retreat (or as a Marine General there stated -"Retreat, Hell, we are simply advancing in a new direction" in history as the Chinese poured in a full division against a few battalions and I think I have heard it produced more Medals of Honor than any other engagement in history.
Talking with these gentlemen was an honor, for all had gone thru the worst one could face in combat, namely overwhelming odds, freezing weather, lack of supplies, having to carry all your wounded or dead with you, and the belief you were never going to make it out alive.
We always talk about our war dead "giving all". IMO ALL combat participants gave their all, it was just that some were asked to pay a greater price than those lucky enough to come back alive.
