Chiricahua National Monument Fire

Horseshoe Two Fire. about 90 miles SE of Tucson.

On May 8, 2011, the Horseshoe Two Fire started on the east side of the Chiricahua Mountains near the community of Portal and the Mexican border.

The fire was HUMAN CAUSED, probably by an illegal who was lost and tried to signal for help.

There are no structures nor campsites in the area. There was no lightning and the sky was blue and cloudless.

The fire burned 223,000 acres and cost over $50million to fight.
The damage is still visible today!
