Mikeyt, your time line may be right, but this is where we stand with the Farm Bill right now.
In the House there was so much interest in the bill that a total of forty seven representative signed on as members of that committee. Think about this, 47 House Representatives signed on as committee members, and most were partisan intent on giving benefits to special interest groups. Some members wanted to reform the program, some wished to increase spending, and some merely wanted to keep everything the same. Cannabis legalization plays a major role, but food stamps is even bigger (as one might expect, liberals want to increase spending on food stamps). The bill did finally pass in the House, but now must be reconciled and passed by the Senate.
The good news is that the Senate only has nine Senate members on their committee, and they all largely agree on the bill and its passage. In my opinion, the Senate Bill is better, but they still must reconcile both bills before submitting it to the President. Fortunately, President Trump is also in favor of this Bill, so once reconciled, it should move very quickly into law. Today very little was done, but tomorrow is another day.
