You were responding as an informed consumer who knew your precise status. The scam artists rely on finding "enough" people who have student loans and fall for their pitch to get the amount reduced.

It's just like the people who call you from a purported "microsoft windows support team." They also just need some percentage of their marks to fall for their pitch.

I just wish the SEC did more than just wring their hands at most attempts to scam us out of our investment funds.
