Well, to be clear, I'm not in the business of persuading anyone to do anything - see my signature for details. I was simply explaining why I doubt any shorts will get roasted and provided an example of how it could work. In that example, the shareholder is guaranteed to be holding 100K shares for the announcement while being able to trade 30K short with no upside risk on those 30K short due to the 30K long trading position.
