Yeah, they're gonna need the tax revenue from legal MJ just to offset the huge corporate/wealthy tax reductions. If not, the run-away deficit growth will become a focal point to leverage in the next election, especially if we end up spending big bucks to ramp up military actions somewhere, which is highly likely.
The bigger source of tax dollars will win in the end. Private prisons are hugely unpopular as they represent a true blue conflict of interest when you consider the fact that rehabilitation, which incarceration is supposed to be providing, directly hurts the bottom line for private prisons due to the reduction in the percentage of repeat offenders which currently is extremely high.
Why would they want to rehabilitate? Why would they lobby for anything other than taking away more personal freedoms to help justify expanding their operations? Politicians will gladly find another source of revenue, and even do away with private prisons altogether, since legal weed will make for a lot of empty cells.
Big alcohol will spin 180 on their stance once it's safe to invest in MJ.
I'll bet politicians will lean toward the bigger source of revenue like they always have.
