The building of it, and yes, of course, the FEDERAL tax to maintain/repair and expand it.
WTF does the 'federal' in federal taxes mean to you? Yours is one of the States that pays MUCH more in Fed taxes than it gets back.
Like you I'm paying for the TVA, the maintenance of military bases and SNAP benefits throughout most of Red Stat 'Murica.
I don't piss and moan about any of it until I hear BS about 'makers and takers', because I mostly agree with Federalism and progressive taxation.
The building of the first STATE highways was on behalf of a nascent auto industry and at the expense of the buggy-whip and horseless carriage industry.
I really can't help you anymore with the elemental history of business/government cooperation and subsidization.
