I know what you mean. I felt the same way about hiking-the only way i could get away from the gang/the cult and hoodlums in general,hiking 26 miles/day while climbing 3000 vertical feet,not even the super goons could follow-the advantages of youth.
When I had hiking partners -i would lead out and they would lead back because i didnt want to come back- for i'm not a masochist.

my most exciting sailing was in small boat on a big lake in the middle of a thunderstorm-my kind of weather. Reminds me of the priest in Caddyshack on the golf course in the middle of a lightning storm.
guess if i was really motivated i could look up how many stars you could see w the naked eye-down to the the 6th magnitude-supposedly the dimmest stars u can see w the naked eye.
